We offer a large array of standard off the shelf components put together in various fashions to achieve 'custom' designs. But what do we do when a client's needs require something more than off-the shelf products?

At Motion Specialties, we are able to fabricate custom components in-house tailored to the specific needs of our clients. This can range from many different elements including armrests, laterals, footrests, trays, and seating options. We have Custom Design Specialists in our Vancouver and Vancouver Island locations who are here to provide you with innovative solutions to a wide range of mobility needs.

Warranty
Each custom component that is manufactured by Motion Specialties is covered by a comprehensive 180 day warranty. During the warranty period, any defective product fabricated by Motion will be repaired or replaced, whichever is appropriate. Items that have been misued, abused or applied incorrectly will not be covered under the warranty.



Custom Components
Here are just a few examples of the many custom components we have built for our clients.

Custom Seat Belt (Semi-Rigid Pelvic Bar):
  • Catches the individual at ASIS hip-bones
  • Has a bit of flex for a client who wanted slight hip movement
  • Made with ABS, gel pads, and a foam cover
  • Fits comfortably over the client's stomach

Lap Tray and Centre Mount Joystick:
  • The centerline joystick is mounted to the tray
  • Tray has a flip down joystick and a closable door allowing the client to use the full tray surface
  • With the client's limited function they could still perform the stowing and recovery of the joystick
  • Joystick can be used without the tray as well

Custom Seating
In addition to our seating systems, we also offer fully customized options built right in our shops. With our custom seating, we can add comfort to wheelchairs, commodes, beds, standers, and more. We use many different types of foam, from plain urethane to space-age memory foams. Various fabrics can be used depending on the qualities required, including: lycra, neoprene, vinyl, air knit, dartex, and naugahyde. All of our fabric covers are removable, or come with slip covers for washing purposes. We can also coat our seating with a waterproof paint that maintains foam softness while protecting from water damage.

Here is an example of one of our 'from scratch' seats.

Drop In Custom Commode Seat:
  • Built from carved foam to the client's specifications 
  • Main foam piece created with 'firm density open cell foam'
  • 1" soft foam overlay for seating comfort
  • Coated with an easy to clean waterproof paint-on sealer
  • Simply drops in place over the client's existing Invacare VIP Ocean seat-base. Also available with wooden base for mounting to other frames.
